In a warm gesture of cross-border engagement, more than 2,100 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived at Pakistan’s Wagah border for the commemoration of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, held near Nankana Sahib. The event marks one of the more visible signs of people-to-people diplomacy amidst tense India–Pakistan relations. Pakistani authorities emphasised the smooth clearance and hospitality extended to the visitors, signalling Pakistan’s intent to facilitate religious tourism and cultural exchange. Experts note that such visits can help soften long-standing narratives, boost local economies around shrines and promote soft-power diplomacy. While symbolic, the pilgrimage underscores how cultural and spiritual ties can complement diplomacy even when political tensions remain high.
