Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Muhammad Aurangzeb, announced that upcoming fiscal policy will place population management and climate resilience at the core of economic planning. Speaking at a Sustainable Development Conference in Islamabad, the minister underscored that Pakistan’s future growth depends not only on macro-economic reforms but on stabilising demographic growth and adapting to climate shocks. Experts say Pakistan faces a “triple challenge”: a rapidly growing population, water scarcity, and energy transition. By integrating these themes into budget planning, Pakistan is signalling to global partners and bilateral financiers that it is aligning its economy with sustainable development objectives. The move may also enhance Pakistan’s appeal for green financing, climate compensations and UN-linked partnership flows.
